The Career of Dr Chris Brummer: A Look at His Positions, Areas of Expertise, and Trajectory

Dr Chris Brummer began his academic career by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Georgetown University. He then went on to earn a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures from Yale University. After completing his education, Dr Brummer worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Francis M. Arnold of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He then worked as an attorney at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York City.
In 2004, Dr Brummer became a tenured professor at Georgetown University Law Center, where he still teaches today. He has also taught at the University of Miami School of Law, American University Washington College of Law, and New York University School of Law. In addition to his academic positions, Dr Brummer has also served on the Board of Directors for Fannie Mae since 2016. He is currently a member of the Audit and Risk Management Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.
In addition to his work in academia and on the Board of Directors for Fannie Mae, Dr Brummer is also a Senior Fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Financial Markets and Policy and a Research Fellow at the Brookings Institution. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Dr Brummer has received numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including being named to the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers in 2015.
